Staff headed to all sections of the state during the week to
meet with potential supporters and renew relationships with media. On
Tuesday, JLF held a “get to know us” luncheon in Wilmington, featuring
John Hood discussing how to become involved, JLF’s mission, products,
services, etc. The luncheon was sponsored and hosted by local supporter
Tuney Nunnelee. Patrick Ballantine attended and introduced Hood. JLF’s
George Higgins and Summer Hood also networked with guests. Following
the event, John and Summer met with the news director at WHQR-FM and
the editorial page editor at the Wilmington Star-News. On
Thursday, Chad Adams and Marilyn Avila joined the group for a similar
event in Charlotte, at which Richard Vinroot introduced Hood to the
guests. After lunch, Adams headed to Asheville where he took over the
microphone at WWNC-AM while regular afternoon talk show host, Matt
Mittan, took the day off. Among Adams’ guests was Don Carrington, who
gave an update on legislative slush funds.
Adams reports he programmed the show with an eye toward sharing the
Locke message — a goal made easier when JLF’s Paul Messino called in
to have his say. While Adams headed west, John Hood and Summer Hood
stayed in Charlotte for meetings with The Charlotte Observer and an appearance on “Speak Out Charlotte,” a local cable TV show hosted by John Sullivan.
