No, this is not about wooing the Hall of Fame to Charlotte with sacks of public loot. It is news that the ever-inventive folks at NASCAR have found yet another way to make money in the private sector.

The racing series has inked a deal with Harlequin Enterprises — yes, the bodice-ripping novel people — to market romance novels to female NASCAR fans. The first book entitled — start your snickers — “In the Groove” will be released in February just as the race season gears up with the Daytona 500:

“We thought this would be an excellent way for our female fan base to have the opportunity to read about NASCAR and get something for themselves,” said Kerry Tharp, public relations director for NASCAR’s licensing division.

The first book is about a former kindergarten teacher who finds a job driving a motor coach for a racing star. She knows nothing about racing — but after a rocky start, she catches the star’s eye and a romance ensues.

Does this sound like another NASCAR license to print money or what?
