Intrigue continues in the Haywood County tax department. By way of review, Michael Matthews was a paper candidate who was elected tax collector. But since he couldn’t do all that was required, the defeated incumbent was retained by the county to help. The suitability of the current tax collector was questioned due to his history of unpaid taxes and problems getting him bonded. Now, another scandal about unpaid debt has emerged.

The lah-di-dah of the story is: I thought parties were supposed to wipe candidates’ histories clean.
