And speaking of Buckleys, Christopher has a short story titled “Royal Pain” in the latest Atlantic Monthly. It’s about a New York pr expert called to puff up the reputation of the Prince of Wales. Having visited a British hospital in an emergency, I thought this bit on the National Health was dead on:
“I came away with quite an appreciation for the country, though I don’t think I’d want to get seriously sick there, to judge from the stories I heard about their National Health. No wonder it’s free of charge. You have to schedule ? or, as they would say, shed-yule ? your serious illnesses months in advance, and when you get there, the CAT-scan machine has an OUT OF SERVICE sign on it.”
