The Republican Party has released its lineup of speakers for the upcoming convention in early September. Former New York mayor and presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani will keynote the event.

Some other speakers of note: Senator Joseph Lieberman and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. President Bush will also speak.

I can’t imagine what Republicans are thinking having Rudy keynote. Aside from his less-than-conservative viewpoint on a host of issues, the GOP has already trumpeted him on the national stage many times. But then again, they don’t appear too worried about conservative purity, putting Arnold up there as they are.

A better pick for the keynote would have Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, as I’ve argued previously.
