My source close to the prize committee tells me two men from the Triangle (so far) are in the running to receive the first-ever Mayor Ray Nagin Award for Inconceivable Incompetence in the Line of Duty:
? Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong, for his handling of the Duke lacrosse and stripper rape allegations.
? North Carolina State University athletics director Lee Fowler, for his handling of the search for a new men’s basketball head coach.
