The Asheville-area contingency of MoveOn.org protested in front of the president’s campaign headquarters at the corner of Hilliard and South French Broad. They wanted the president to “make sure Fannie and Freddie . . . provide relief to the millions of Americans struggling with mortgage debt.” Perhaps the demonstration was a setup to make jerks out of conservative bloggers who believe they must now backtrack to explain that the federal government felt it had to seize Fannie and Freddie because they were too big to fail after availing precarious loans and mismanaging their finances. To cover their anticipated expenses of getting into the home loan business, the government raised its debt ceiling from $800 billion to $10.7 trillion. (I just checked, and Snopes has not yet debunked these numbers.)
