The state Senate has passed a bill that would allow for a local option sales tax in the Triangle and the Triad to fund mass transportation.

In fairness, PART director Brent McKinney didn’t appear overanxious at the prospect of more money for mass transit in the Triad —- no matter how much taxpayers’ cash he solicits to build park and ride lots —-saying any light rail plan would take years to implement.

But, considering the fact that ‘going green’ is being used to justify just about everything these days, it will be interesting to see how long it takes PART and gullible elected officials to start rallying the troops.
