First our friends at the Pope Center inform us that Shakespeare has become as rare on college campuses as coed curfews. Now we learn that science is becoming just as rare in elementary school, at least in the enlightened environs of San Francisco. How can that be? Aren’t liberal lefties supposed to luuuuuv science? Oh, wait, it turns out it’s all Bush’s fault:

“The demands of No Child Left Behind have made it almost impossible to devote enough time to science,” said Melinda Dart, a fourth-grade teacher at Wilson Elementary School in Daly City’s Jefferson Elementary District.

I hope all liberals understand what this means. NCLB means that schools can’t concentrate on their advanced students and let minorities slide like they used to. Now they are accountable for getting all the children educated, not just the kids of the Ph.D.s. Hence the name NO CHILD left behind. Ms. Dart, then, is admitting that she can’t teach kids who need teaching. She can only teach the kids who were taught to read Moby Dick before first grade. This tells you all you need to know.
