In light of the economic incentives request by Innovation Quarter —formerly Piedmont Triad Research park —- Forsyth County Commissioner Bill Whiteheart is pushing for policy guidelines that “that would require tax-exempt entities to make a tax-equivalent payment to the county in exchange for development incentives in the future.”

Not sure how seriously some of Whiteheart’s fellow commissioners are taking his proposed guidelines, considering Walter Marshall’s comment that he supports it because he “wants to get Whiteheart satisfied and get it over with….Anybody hates to go out and vote against job creation.”

Some sort of policy needs to be in place, because my hunch is Innovation Quarter will to come both the county and the City of Winston-Salem time and again for economic incentives..
