In his latest column, Barry Saunders backs off of earlier objections to the diversity policy in Wake County.

It turns out that a conversation with Rev. William Barber, state NAACP president who is generously quoted throughout Saunders’ piece, prompted the retreat. Although it is not clear that Saunders and Barber agree on means, both contend that diversity is a necessary end. That is a valid (and perhaps inevitable) debate.
