How did I know: the N&R’s Rosemary Roberts says we need to take a “gritty look” at lax gun control laws in the wake of the Virginia Tech massacre:
In America, gun advocates invoke the Second Amendment, claiming it applies not only to the militia’s right to bear arms, but to the people’s right. But it’s doubtful the Founding Fathers meant for everybody to own Glocks or AK-47s.
Not that the gun-rights crowd has much to worry about. After the Columbine massacre, stricter gun control became Topic A, but nothing ever came of it.
Now comes the Virginia Tech killings, and the topic has been resurrected. But don’t count on Congress or legislatures enacting stricter gun-control laws. It’s just too politically dicey.
