Now that President-Elect Obama and his wife, Michelle, have chosen the elite private school Sidwell Friends for their daughters, liberal campaign supporter and so-called public education advocate Eleanor Holmes Norton is trying her best to defend the decision, which of course is clearly at odds with the public policy views the President-Elect wants to impose on the rest of us.
From the Washington Post:
Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), a vocal advocate of public education, defended the Obamas’ choice. “That is for him and his own family,” she said. “I don’t see any public aspect to this decision of where your children should go to school.”
Well, Del. Holmes Norton, I agree that it “is for him and his own family” to decide, as I blog here. But every American should have the opportunity to make that same choice — not just the wealthy and famous.
To say you “don’t see any public aspect to this decision” is beyond ridiculous. The Obama’s choice clearly falls under the category of do as I say, not as I do.
