The Haywood County Commissioners gave the fairgrounds a second bailout this year. The arena’s temporary operating permit expired because $400,000 for building lavatories could not be collected by the Haywood Agricultural and Activities Board. The first county bailout of $337,000 saved the fairgrounds from foreclosure. The county initially cut its assistance with the arena’s loan payments when attempting to balance its budget. Members of the public argued the arena was necessary for sky’s-the-limit things like heritage, quality of life, and identity.
