At the behest of the resident government official, I’m posting a letter to the editor in today’s N&O:

Regarding the March 16 article “Legislators seal land giveaway”:
I offer the State of North Carolina $100 for the 300 acres at the Currituck County airport. I further offer $600 for the 1.8 acres in downtown Charlotte.
I further offer $10 each for the brains of all the legislators who voted for selling $6.5 million, the estimated value of the two properties, for $2. They will all be donated to science for a study as to what makes legislators do not-so-clever, otherwise known as stupid, things with taxpayers’ money. I hope the governor has a better brain and will veto these stupid ideas.

Bill, that’s great. I’m sorry that Duke hasn’t heard the news yet, but with the appointment of the new director of the Primate Center, I suspect that the donation will be much appreciated. But, I still have my doubts. Not that the brains will be graciously accepted, but that it might be hard to recognize the difference between the brains of local legislators and those of the primates.
