On Tuesday, JLF engaged the media, the public, and legislators in
a discussion about the science of global warming – a topic usually
dominated by alarmists — by hosting climate scientist Dr. S. Fred Singer
for several activities. The physicist is renowned for his work on
climate change and recently consulted with author Michael Crichton on State of Fear,
in which Crichton warns of the politicization of the science and the
resulting unfounded state of fear. The day began with JLF staffers
distributing the book to state lawmakers’ offices and inviting them to
attend a press conference with Dr. Singer, who discussed climate
science and the state’s proposed commission on global warming.
The conference, sponsored by Sen. Andrew Brock, drew a dozen
legislators, as well as UNC-TV, News 14 Carolina, the Associated Press,
Freedom Newspapers, Metro Magazine, and State Government Radio. Dr.
Singer next addressed more than 100 people at a Raleigh luncheon,
followed by appearances on WPTF-AM’s “Bill LuMaye Show” and “The Jason
Lewis Show” on WBT-AM in Charlotte.
