The N&R reports that Wednesday’s testimony in the trial of suspended Greensboro Police detective Scott “Scooter” Sanders “resembled a tennis match” as “defense and prosecution went back and forth over the city’s computer-use policy and when, if ever, police officers have the right to search a computer.”
Prosecutors are arguing that Sanders didn’t have HUD’s permission to hack into officer Julius Fulmore’s computer, while defense attorney Seth Cohen produced witnesses who testified that “city policy at the time said any computer connected to Greensboro’s system could be searched.”
I’ve said before that Jennifer Fernandez is one of the N&R’s better reporters, but I have a question about her coverage. Why did I get three-quarters of the way through her article before I read that Fulmore was on the stand yesterday? Considering the fact that he’s a central figure in this entire GPD controversy, I would think his testimony would be headline news.
