Rep. Virginia Foxx had a teleconference with constituents last nights. All of the callers, except one, were supportive of Foxx’s efforts in Washington:

When the one critic got through, he asked, “Why are there only positive calls?”

“Frankly, I expected negative calls,” Foxx responded.

Groen said after the teleconference that Foxx was unable to control who got through.

The caller went on to say that he was concerned about the Iraq war and how much it was costing.

Foxx said that one of the key roles that Congress must play is to defend the U.S. against foreign threats.

“It’s the role of the federal government to provide for defense,” she said.

Foxx is right. When people compare the cost of the war in Iraq with the cost of providing healthcare, they need to keep in mind that one charge is constitutionally mandated and the other isn’t.
