The Greensboro City Council is weighing another incentives request from RF Micro, which is also hitting up Guiford County. The total comes to $2 million and the company has already received packages of incentives in the past.

A couple of city council members are quoted as expressing doubts:

“I’m considering the request but I do have questions,” said Sandy Carmany, a City Council member.

“I have a little bit of sticker shock because they have already been to see us twice. At some point it starts to be too much,” she said.

Another council member said he did not fault RF Micro for coming to the city, but did not agree with the incentives policy.

“RF Micro is just operating within the system. They would be derelict in their duties if they didn’t ask for money,” said Tom Phillips.

“To me it’s the system that is screwed up. I’d like to see federal legislation that prohibits states and local governments from giving out money,” he said.
