Piedmont Triad Partnership president Don Kirkman tells area residents that meetings of the Aerotropolis Leadership Board aren’t open to the public because the board is a private, nonprofit corporation.

For those unfamiliar, the aerotropolis board is charged with promoting economic development surrounding Piedmont Triad International Airport and, to a lesser degree, Winston-Salem’s Smith Reynolds Airport.

Evidently the Smith Reynolds board of directors thought director Larry Scantlin wasn’t committed to the aeotropolis concept, so they canned him. Board chairman Tom McKim says it was an “amicable parting,” but…..
