After reading Reid’s remarks, I see we as a nation have reached a fiscal T-intersection. We can be “mean-spirited” and reactionary against running $500-Billion-plus deficits annually for the foreseeable future, -OR- we can have publicly funded Cowboy Poetry Festivals and other neat activities on Titanic. Choose wisely:
… The National Endowment of the Humanities is the reason we have in northern Nevada every January a cowboy poetry festival. Had that program not been around, the tens of thousands of people who come there every year would not exist. …
(Note: Compelling reason suggests Reid is wrong on his last point and that those tens of thousands of people would still exist, even without Cowboy Poetry Festivals.)
