In this foothills district, nonprofit official Dan Soucek defeated North Wilkesboro town commisioner Jeffrey Elmore for the GOP nomination and the right to face incumbent Steve Goss. Elmore won nearly 60 percent of the vote in Wilkes County, but Soucek captured 53 percent of the overall ballots.
As Sara Burrows reported in this CJ preview, Soucek ran on a straightforward platform of reducing taxes and regulations and wants Attorney General Roy Cooper to join the multistate lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of ObamaCare.
