The Journal’s Scott Sexton doesn’t quite buy Michael Decker’s ‘confession is good for the soul’ rap:
A cynic, like me for example, might even say that it proves long-held suspicions that Decker’s been shady for a long time, and that his explanation that his conscience got to him and that confession has been good for his soul is a sham.
“You being a cynic is not new to me,” Decker said with a good laugh. “You’ve often been critical of people calling themselves Christians who’ve not done the right thing. At that time, I wasn’t worrying about doing the right thing. I was just away from God.”
Hey, you can understand Sexton’s cynicism. By the same token, if Decker’s serious about getting right with God, he’ll have plenty of time to do so. And, as Father Phil told Ralph Cifaretto on last night’s episode of ‘The Sopranos,’ often God’s the only one who does understand.
Turned out Ralph found out real quickly just how much God did understand.
