John Locke Foundation President John Hood used his latest article in the print version of National Review this week to describe presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama’s economic ideas as “Wicca Economics.” Hood writes: “It is pan-ideological, accepting and even embracing contradiction. It makes environmentalism into a ritualistic religion. Its response to hard realities, such as the impending entitlement calamity, is little more than wishful thinking. It depends wholly on the magical abilities of a charismatic leader.” Hood also offered his thoughts to the Charlotte Observer this week about the controversy surrounding former Democratic presidential contender John Edwards. National McClatchy distribution of the Observer article meant publication of Hood’s comments in publications such as the Macon (Ga.) Telegraph and Mid Columbia Tri-City Herald in Kennewick, Wash. The Washington Times quoted Hood in an article about the U.S. Senate race between incumbent Republican Elizabeth Dole and Democratic challenger Kay Hagan. Meanwhile, George Leef, research director for the John W. Pope Center for Higher Education Policy, published a letter in the Wall Street Journal offering a critique of federal labor law.
