Sheldon Richman’s TGIF column last Friday hits the nail on the head with regard to the federal leviathan. He writes that minor budget compromises are not what the country needs. Rather, we must have a deep rethinking of the role of government. As long as people continue to believe that government exists to provide for their wants and give them feelings of security, politicians will make promises that give us bloated budgets, waste resources, and turn politics into huge exercise in robbing Peter to pay Paul.
