The Town of Sylva will be booting cars associated with unpaid parking tickets. If the balance owed, plus a $25 booting fee, are paid within 24 hours, then the car will be set free. If the owner can’t afford that, the car will be confiscated until she can pay the fee plus towing and accruing storage fees. The town leaders felt compelled to adopt the booting ordinance because thousands of dollars in unpaid fines have been accumulating. Town Attorney Eric Ridenhour said the ordinance is modeled after one used in Asheville. Really?
