Staff writer Gabe Starosta and the N&O earn some kudos for this story.

The story is timeless. Despite warnings, the Wake County Public School System decided to build a high school on a parcel of land that is unsuitable for a school but suitable for a rock quarry. Costs are going through the roof because, well, the parcel of land is suitable for a rock quarry.
School officials plan to go to the county commissioners and beg for millions of additional taxpayer dollars.

It appears that the school system will spend around $10 million on site work and we haven’t even begun to talk about the cost of the school building. Yikes!
Commissioner Paul Coble summed it up nicely, “At this point the only thing I can ask is, is this the result of incompetence or have we been intentionally misled?”
