Next month the New York City schools are opening the Khalil Gibran International Academy to teach Arabic and Islamic culture.

Two minor problems:

1. Gibran wasn’t Arabic
2. He wasn’t Islamic either

One scholarly resource [/sarc] could have tipped them off that Gibran was (1)Lebanese and (2) Marionite Catholic. But maybe it’s blocked in the NYC schools, like it was in China.

Gibran’s friends are asking for a name change.
