The Center for Responsive Politics has issued a new report detailing campaign contributions made to presidential candidates for the upcoming 2008 election.

Now, the results of the survey may catch some of you off guard, so brace yourself. But, according to the report, Democrats are getting the vast majority of the contributions.

I know! I was shocked myself. Liberals in higher education? Who knew?

Of the $7 million given to federal candidates from campus donors so far, 60 percent has gone to presidential candidates. Sixty-six percent of that money, otherwise known as a lot, has gone to Democrats with Illinois Sen. Barack Obama winning the higher education lottery, taking in $1.5 million so far. Don’t worry, Sen. Hillary Clinton is right behind with $940,000 in donations.

So far in 2008, the education industry is ranked No. 14 among all contributors. That is ahead, according to the report, of other industries such as oil and gas, contractors, the computer and Internet industry, utilities, and pharmaceuticals. In 2004, academics contributed $30 million to defeating President Bush.

In case you’re wondering, Harvard leads all campuses with $266,0044 in donations so far in 2008. Eighty-one percent went to Democrats.
