Caterpillar, that great recipient of corporate welfare, is getting rid of its third shift and laying off twenty part-time workers at its Franklin plant. Caterpillar was willing to create jobs and invest millions in the community, but it couldn’t get government to sustain demand for mining equipment. Perhaps the governor should commission a study to find how we can keep people manufacturing things in spite of market signals. Might I suggest beginning with Point Five of Directive 10-289?
