In another example of over-reacting to Muslim sensitivities to look adequately multicultural, an American firm operating in North Africa has fired two oil workers for having “simulated sex” with sheep that were going to be used in a ritual Muslim slaughter.
The animals were being killed for 30 foreign workers to celebrate Eid Al Adhha in the Algerian oil town Hassi Messaoud.
The men, who have not been named, were reported by stunned restaurant workers and guards — then sacked by their employer, US industrial giant Schlumberger.
They were accused of “sheep violationâ€.
This seems a clear case of guys in a remote overseas location having a little fun. No details of the simulation are given so we don’t know if it was simply acting out or gesturing. Perhaps it was crass and insensitive, but what isn’t these days when Muslims are involved? Company officials decided that simulated sex with a sheep prior to its throat being slit was just taking a prank too far.
