I was reviewing albums for my newspaper when Barry Manilow’s first record came out, the one with “Mandy” on it. A scratchy intro track had Manilow and his father in a Coney Island recording booth when Barry was a kid. “Sing it, Barry!” his dad kept saying. Well, Barry is singing it again. Looks like his new album of ’50s tunes is going to debut at the top of the charts. I don’t think this is Baby Boomers’ parents buying this album. Most of them have departed this world. It’s more likely Baby Boomers themselves nostalgic about the songs they remember their departed parents liking.
