Surely by now you are impressed by the economic analyses coming out of Western Carolina University. I am not. Surely less as a means to improve data collection and assessment than to propagate the status quo, the state is creating the University Center Economic Development Program with a startup $128,592 contribution. In the spirit of what now passes for economic analysis, Senator Kay Hagan announced:

“These resources will support innovation at WCU and strengthen our state’s economy . . . We must continue to invest in research and development that promotes new ideas and entrepreneurship, and I’m pleased that these resources will encourage our students to innovate in order to compete in a 21st century global economy.”

The grant will leverage EDA and WCU investment funds to help communities capitalize on economic development opportunities.

Wait. Didn’t a big-time candidate just get in trouble for allegedly engaging in global economizing?
