As his International Civil Rights Museum is laying off workers, Guilford County Commission chairman Skip Alston holds a fundraiser for fellow commissioner Bruce Davis, who’s making an independent run for the District 28 Senate seat. Democrat nominee Gladys Robinson says she’s not bothered by Alston’s endorsement of Davis, noting she has her won supporters and endorsements.
Meanwhile, the N&R editorializes on the museum layoffs, saying the switch to a full-time marketing person from contract service “should not only save money but result in more aggressive promotions for the museum, which has a good product to sell but could do a better job of selling it.”
No kidding, especially when you read back in September that “museum staff members also are concentrating on more low-tech, bread-and-butter ways of attracting visitors, such as giving local hotels and motels a brochure with an enticing description of the museum along with basics such as its street address, admission fees and a telephone number.”
That’s pretty basic stuff for a tourist attraction that’s been 16 years in the making.
