Guilford County Commissioner Skip Alston is getting involved in the investigation of the shooting o a Charlotte man by a police officer.

How so, you might ask:

Alston leads the initial investigation because he’s the state leader for the National Action Network, a civil rights organization led by Sharpton, a longtime civil rights proponent who occasionally makes national headlines with his outspoken stances on race, class and politics.

The network works for civil rights justice, according to its Web site. Alston joined the group in April and was enlisted on the project recently, he said.

…..Alston will determine whether there’s a case by drawing on nine years of training in civil rights as a member of the NAACP, he said.

Then he’ll make the call on whether to bring a potential national spotlight to the Charlotte case.

Stay tuned.
