hhDidn’t think this was gonna happen. The possibility was the worst kept open secret in Charlotte since Tammy Faye Bakker used to raid TJ Maxx for clothes to re-sell at Heritage USA.

After investigators leaked the first name “Skipper,” the initials “S.B.”, and the use of a Mercedes SUV in one of the late 2007 trysts they surveilled, Beck’s name quickly came up in business circles in town. Clearly there was the possibility he would be charged in connection with the HushHush.com case. Multiple people asked me when and if Beck would be charged.

But that chance seemed to fade as the federal prosecution of Sallie Saxon and company went in other directions, principally trying to nail johns who had used business funds to pay for high-end hookers, committing tax fraud in the process. This is why I find it very interesting that the Mecklenburg County sheriff’s office served papers on Beck yesterday to appear in state court on a single charge of soliciting. There has got to be an interesting back-story on how that came to be.

Is this essentially a plea deal? Has Beck been cooperating with authorities all these months? Maybe we’ll find out in court next month.

Update: WSOC has posted the affidavit CMPD used to charge Beck with paying $400 for sexual intercourse in Rm. 229 of the Courtyard Marriott in South Park back in October 2007.

Update II: The Uptown paper of record went back and redacted Beck’s home address on the copy of the affidavit it posted. Does that seem weird to anyone else?
