Jackson County Commissioners are poised to enact what will become the state’s most draconian development ordinances.  Their adoption would stifle growth and usurp freedom.  The John Locke Foundation, especially the cadre of Michael Sanera, Daren Bakst, Chad Adams, and research intern, Michael Moore, has spoken out against the ordinances, both in Jackson and at the state level. Our targeted actions haven’t seemed to help the citizens of Jackson County. Chad even spoke with the western NC delegation at the General Assembly, who is in favor of slope ordinances.  It’s amazing. How could anyone resist the cries of a research intern on sabbatical dressed in a kilt screaming, “they may take our slopes, but they’ll never take… OUR FREEDOM!” But freedom, it seems, is a small price to pay for safety and “managed” growth. I just wish leaders would wield the whip towards incentives as vociferously as they do towards development.
