The mother of a Watauga High School student challenged the school’s requirement that children read a book, Isabel Allende’s The House of the Spirits, which she described as “graphic” and “immoral.” That caused members of a materials content committee to have to read it. They decided the book was OK, but the mother may appeal the decision to the board of education.
