When I read the first few paragraphs of this story, I thought, well hey, maybe these folks can improve the workings of the UNC System. I’m a firm believer that the people closest to the work have valuable and practical insight that managers aren’t in a position to understand. And then I read further and the reality of this group became apparent. Here’s this from the Herald-Sun story. Emphasis is mine. Note that only one topic addresses serving their customers: you and me. Too bad. A group like this can actually do some good.

Although they spent much time on Monday reviewing procedure, delegates suggested a variety of topics that the assembly could address. They include how staff members can contribute to ongoing discussions of efficiency in the system; salary and benefits; child care; possible disparities of job classifications and training options on the campuses; and educational opportunities for employees.
