The Panthers have finally rid themselves of DT Kris Jenkins. They got a 3rd and 5th rounder from the NJ Jets for the two-time Pro Bowler, according to this report. That sounds about right.

Jenkins, to his eternal credit, spoke up early on during last season’s downward spiral, challenging the team’s heart. That did not go over well with some of his teammates and certainly not with the Panther front office. This pretty much sealed his fate.

Trading Jenkins to the AFC limits the chance he’ll come back to haunt the Panthers, he could have a few more good years left.

Now the Panthers must get some FA action on the DL. Raiders defensive end Tyler Brayton appears to the Panthers’ initial target in that regard, why I have no idea. Brayton would be a nice back-up. For a quality starter, Justin Smith is the guy to look at.

BTW, the 49ers signed a two-year, $1.8 million deal with former Panthers halfback DeShaun Foster. Bet he’s happy to be back in California.
