Panther beat reporter Pat Yasinskas is bugging out for ESPN.com.

Will he be replaced? Or will the sports desk headcount shrink by one?

We’ve noted that McClatchy has thus far resisted the newsroom cuts that other newspaper chains have recently turned to in an attempt to contain costs in the face of weak revenue.

Pat did a decent job of covering the Panthers, but as I’ve noted over the years, the Uptown paper of record has been far, far too shy in criticizing Panther front-office moves as opposed to sideline or player performance. Only in the past few weeks has that begun to change.

Let’s see if Pat’s tone is different in his new ESPN gig.
