I mean besides 12,000 abandoned homes that officials from the Charlotte Regional Partnership would want to go visit? Or did we go there to get a good look at what not to do to a city, one that is losing 10,000 people a year?
Ah, but then I stumble on the fact that bankrupt auto supplier Collins & Aikman, with several plants in North Carolina including one in Albemarle, also happens to be sitting on $37 million in N.C. tax credits. And any outfit that buys C&A would get the tax credits. One Michigan firm has already offered $1 billion for C&A’s business. I assume we are trying to drum up more offers. Or buy houses real cheap.
