Again, back in the dark ages, when I was little, people spoke of a future time when good would be called evil and vice versa. The eight-year-old I babysit who is a serious source of consternation loves pop music with the boom-boom beat when the singer talks about the SD&R scene with a smile like it is cool to swear, waste money, get stoned, be immoral, break laws, and all that. It is hard to tell a know-it-all kid there is another side to the ecstasy the stars are selling.
Yet we read that the “cesspool of sin” quote is, to borrow language from the Asheville Citizen-Times, “the gift that keeps on giving.” NPR host Peter Segal recorded a 50-second commentary for NPR praising the city for its accomplishment that has reportedly “driven $10,000 in donations so far” for local station WCQS.
