After a student complained about being compelled by a professor to express views contrary to her beliefs, the president at Missouri State University ordered an investigation of the Social Work Department and the resulting report was devastating. The student’s complaint was not just an isolated incident. The report found that the environment of the department was “toxic.”

Accreditation seems to have played a role, since the Council on Social Work Education, which accredits Missouri State (and a number of private colleges in NC) has standards that are saturated in leftist jargon about oppression. Everyone in the program is supposed to accept and believe in those notions.

People who don’t like it when professors preach rather than teach are often told that this is an imaginary problem concocted by right-wing fascists who just want an excuse to stifle professors they don’t like. This instance will be hard to dismiss like that.
