Fast-tracked to the Asheville City Council agenda is the resolution intended to appease Occupy Asheville. Cecil Bothwell suggested it as a compromise. Bothwell proposed the resolution so the protesters would feel they had accomplished something by camping before packing out. Downtown business owners had requested the relocation of the campers because they feared the shabby tent city, unsanitary human waste, and damage to our green brother, Mr. Grass. The resolution reads, in part:

Whereas, the United States Constitution has been amended many times in response to a groundswell of public opinion, it is the responsibility of local representatives to give voice to the concerns of its citizenry and advise Congressional representatives of these concerns; and

Whereas, a growing number of people and municipalities across the nation have joined together to call for an Amendment to the United States Constitution to abolish corporate personhood; . . .

Also on Tuesday’s agenda is yet another attempt to break up the camp site. This time, the city will define the current camp site as a public forum. It currently has no description. Public forums would be defined essentially as city parks without citywide park curfews. However, another ordinance would ban camping or participating in any activities bearing any semblance of camping.
