Let’s see what this means practically. The average daily commute time for Americans nationally in 2003 was 23.4 minutes, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Now imagine the multiplier effect riding a bike would have.

Riding a bike may be plausible for a quick run by the corner store, but for most Americans it’s not an option for getting to work. So, while some lawmakers put forth such feel-good non-solutions, the rest of us have to face reality.

And speaking of the rest of us, maybe more people should be thinking about the egregious amounts of taxpayer money that lawmakers spend on their own polluting forms of transportation.
