The residents of three counties in Seattle-Tacoma said no to an $18 billion highway-transit plan that would have hiked sales and vehicle taxes to pay for it all. Significantly, both a county executive and the Sierra Club came out against the plan as doing too little to combat congestion, emissions, and the local carbon footprint.

That and — I’ll wager — Seattle residents have already had several years of experience with trains and have seen first-hand that they are not magical. Charlotte has yet to learn that lesson.
