Robert Novak recently spoke at a JLF luncheon in Raleigh. His new book gets a very favorable review from Thomas Sowell here.

One point Sowell makes is that after reading Novak, it’s hard to continue holding the view that “public service” is necessarily noble. That notion is at the center of the current fad for increased governmental subsidies for higher education. The idea is that many young people today graduate from college with such high debts that they can’t “afford” to take the supposedly noble, public-spirited jobs in government and instead must go after the big bucks in private employment.

If only that were true.
