I randomly mentioned “The Conscience of a Conservative” in a post below, not having thought of that book for at least five years. Then, 15 minutes later I get a call alerting me that the world premiere of a film about Barry Goldwater will he held at the Full-Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham on April 8.

I realize that “documentary film festival” usually means “left-wing film festival,” but maybe it’ll be different this year. The film, “Mr. Conservative,” was produced in collaboration with Goldwater’s granddaughter, CC Goldwater, so unless she hated the guy, maybe the festival will be a little less pink this year.

It’s billed on the Full-Frame Web site as a “forgotten history of an icon of American Conservatism, Barry Goldwater, as told by his granddaughter.” The showing is at 6:30 p.m. in Fletcher Hall at The Carolina Theatre in downtown Durham. A panel discussion will be held afterward.

One red flag, though, comes from a review of the film I found on an Arizona Web site. It says among the many people interviewed for the film were “Senator Hillary Clinton, Justice Sandra Day O?Connor, James Carville, Walter Cronkite, Al Franken, Norman Lear, George Will, Senator Edward Kennedy, Senator John McCain, Senator John Warner, John Dean, Ben Bradlee, Helen Thomas, Andy Rooney, Bob Schieffer, and Robert MacNeil.”

I make that 13 liberals to 3 conservatives, and that’s only if you count McCain and Warner as conservatives. Not a good sign.
