Today, if a kid opens fire and murders a dozen children, he is reaching for his identity and in need of public nurturing. The real offenders are guys like William Junaluska. He forgot to take a handgun he uses for backup when hunting out of his coat pocket after a turkey shoot in the woods with his grandson. The morning was unusually cold when he went to the Jackson County Justice Center to “check on” a seatbelt citation, so he grabbed his heavy coat.

Well, gramps went through the new metal detector, got hand-cuffed, got hauled to the jail, got interrogated for an hour, and surrendered his gun for criminal evidence. Gramps does not have a permit to exercise his Second Amendment right.

“We couldn’t determine if he had a plan to enter the Justice Center with that weapon,” Sheriff’s Office Major Shannon Queen said.
